The Poptastic Bride loves to showcase outside-the-box weddings, wedding engagements, day-afters, and styled shoots. Cynthia, the owner of PB, describes her site as “Creative wedding ideas & inspiration for non-cookie cutter celebrations!” The couple below was a shoot I did a couple years ago but I wasn’t sure where to send it to be showcased. So it just sat in the archives, that is, until Cynthia spotted one of the images on our website. It now has a second home on the Poptastic Bride described as “Catherine & Adam’s Crazy-Cool and Cinematic Abandoned Rail Car E-session“. Catherine and Adam are very fun and wide open. She is very quirky and you can tell he loves to just let her be and completely adores her for her natural eccentricities. I spoke with them briefly about what they would be wearing and shared the idea of shooting in a machine shop near my old studio. This was located on the Old Naval base here in Charleston, which is now very run down and filled with large industrial warehouses. The warehouse is so huge, and light pores in from all over the place. I like depth in my images, so I thought this could be a great place to create a very editorial style shoot with them. So we started there, then used some other areas in walking distance, and finally ended up at an abandoned rail car rotting in the middle of a field. I’m not always completely sure how the juxtaposition of a shoot like this will end up — her wearing a tutu and him in a tux with Birkenstocks in a industrial/run down environment, but I feel like as long as the couple is genuinely into it, and look comfortable in the surroundings, it sells.
The bride had this to say-“We had the best time taking those pictures! We knew for our engagement pictures that we wanted something different that would stand out from all of other pictures out there… something over the top. And nothing says over the top like an enormous tutu…lol. Adam got a tux, we told Todd we wanted something crazy and cool and he took it from there. Todd came up with the amazing locations. We could not have been happier with how they turned out. We loved the idea of being dressed to the nines in rather disheveled places. It fit our style perfectly!
